The federal government will be collecting feedback from the public over the next month, as it opens public consultations on a national school food policy.
The program to provide a nutritious meal program nationwide was promised by the Liberals in the last federal election campaign.
It would replace the patchwork of assistance provided by the provinces, private donors, and social service agencies.
Food Banks Canada’s annual Hunger Count report earlier this month showed a record-breaking number of Canadians are now using food banks one-third of them are children.
