The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department was called to Hazel Road in behind the Super Save Gas Station on Two Mile Flat at around 7 o’clock last (Sunday) night.
Fire Chief Ron Richert says it was a difficult fire to fight.
“Just because we couldn’t gain access inside. It was too dangerous because the roof had collapsed onto itself. So it was a bit difficult for our firefighters to get inside, and it was sawdust insulation as well, so it was really difficult to get access.”
Richert says the top section of the roof was fully involved when they arrived.
He says they were on scene for about 3 1/2 hours.
Richert says they were called back to the fire early this morning.
“We were called back at around 5-40 because the house had rekindled, so we brought in some equipment to gain better access to it and we were able to extinguish the fire this morning.”
Richert says a backhoe tore down some of the walls so they could gain access into the sawdust insulation as well as the roof line and the walls.
He says they were there until around 10 o’clock this (Monday) morning.
Richert says roughly 20 fire fighters responded last night and another dozen or so this morning.
He says they had mutual aid from the Barlow Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
No one was hurt and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
