Federal health minister says provinces, territories sent by premiers to demand more money

The federal-provincial-territorial meeting on health care ended without any deals being made.

Federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos pulled out of a concluding news conference, saying the health ministers were sent by their premiers to do nothing but demand more money.

Ottawa wants the provinces and territories to agree to a common set of health indicators, so Canadians can better assess their healthcare options, and put more money towards family doctors and mental health support for healthcare workers.

B-C’s health minister Adrian Dix, who chaired the Vancouver meeting, says it was a disappointing end to the session.

He says his counterparts agree that it’s time for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to meet with the premiers in a healthcare summit.
