Two sides wait for decision in multi-million dollar lawsuit against City of Quesnel

A Supreme Court Justice has reserved his decision over whether or not the court has jurisdiction in a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the City of Quesnel.

A group of 10 former employees, who were eventually terminated for refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccine, is suing the city for two million dollars each.

Justice Nathan Smith heard submissions from the two sides on Thursday and Friday of last week.

The city contends that a labour arbitrator should decide the employees’ case, adding that the union representing the employees has filed a grievance on their behalf.

The employees filed the suit in June.

They were placed on an involuntary unpaid leave of absence on January 10th of this year.

The province is also named in the suit.
