Former Smithers gymnastics coach acquitted of sexual assault charges

A Saskatchewan Judge has found a former Smithers gymnastics coach not guilty on sexual assault and exploitation charges.

71 year-old Marcel Dubroy was acquitted of the charges on Friday (Oct 14) at the Regina Court of King’s Bench.

His trial started in June before it took a break and then resumed in September.

Dubroy was arrested at his home in Smithers in May 2019 relating to the charges that stemmed from Saskatchewan that involved a now 34 year-old woman.

According to police, the incidents took place between 2002 and 2008.

The victim said that Dubroy sexually assaulted her over a number of years.

When he was arrested he was a gymnastics coach at Saltos Gymnastics Club.

Dubroy was suspended nationwide from teaching gymnastics shortly after the police investigation began.
