Canfor’s Intercontinental Pulp Mill to end temporary curtailment October 24th

After a month-long curtailment, Canfor’s Intercontinental Pulp Mill in Prince George will resume production next week (October 24th).

Last month, the facility had its annual maintenance, which lasted for two weeks.

Canfor then implemented a two-week curtailment due to a lack of economic fibre.

In total, the four-week shutdown will reduce pulp production by 28-thousand tonnes.

“Despite strong global pulp markets, we are experiencing a shortfall of economic fibre in British Columbia. The fibre for pulp mills is increasingly constrained due to the impacts of the decreasing allowable annual cut, the end of the Mountain Pine Beetle epidemic, wildfires and reduced sawmill capacity in the province,” said Kevin Edgson, President & CEO, Canfor Pulp.

“We regret the impact of the downtime on our employees and are working to support them through this time.”
