Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for almost everywhere North of the Cariboo.
According to Environment Canada, a very cold arctic ridge of high pressure will settle over the northern and central BC Interior. The effected areas are Bulkley Valley, Lake District, Mackenzie, Mcgregor, Pine Pass, Chilcotin, Cariboo North, Prince George, Stuart – Nechako, Lakes District, and BC North Peace River.
Northern Winds combined with overnight lows in the minus 30s will generate extreme windchill values of at least minus 40.
During the day, conditions will slightly moderate with windchill values hovering in the minus 30s, however, windchill values of at least minus 40 will return each evening until Tuesday morning.
On Christmas, some areas could see windchill values of up to minus 50.
Environment Canada reminds Northern BC residents to watch for cold related symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
