Suspicious death of 19-year-old Indigenous woman near Williams Lake leads to arrest

RCMP in the Cariboo is investigating a suspicious death near Williams Lake.

Police were called to the Esk’etemc community on Monday (December 20th) where emergency crews found a 19-year-old Indigenous woman deceased.

Corporal Madonna Saunderson with the North District RCMP said a 23-year-old Indigenous man was arrested at the home and is known to the victim.

Several detachments are in contact with the local government to investigate the death alongside the BC Coroners Service.

One count of second-degree murder has been laid against Waylon Darian Harry.

He will remain in custody and appear in court on January 12th.
