Vanderhoof company takes home Community Service Award

Yellowhead Road and Bridge in Vanderhoof have been recognized for their community efforts.

The company claimed the 2020 Community Service Award during this year’s B.C. Transportation Contractor of the Year Awards of Excellence on Friday.

YRB was recognized for its contributions to ensure access to facilities like the Nechako Valley Exhibition Society, and Murray Ridge Ski Hill area in Fort Saint James.

“We all grow up in these communities. Our kids are involved in the 4-H program and it definitely helps the communities.”

“It’s the same with the skiing in Fort Saint James, we plow the parking lot annually for those folks up there. They provide a great service for all of our children who get to use those facilities,” said Jordon McNolty, General Manager of YRB Vanderhoof.

At the end of the day, McNolty believes all of their workers deserve a pat on the back.

“They are out doing service that is dangerous to them. It happens through the days, nights, Christmas, and New Year’s so when those men and women who are out there working hard, it’s always nice to say that they earned this.”

YRB employs 50 people during the winter season.

The 2021 award for community service was given to Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting LP.
