Christmas Village canceled this year

This year’s Vanderhoof Christmas Village is canceled.

The Historic Society lost its rights to the Historic buildings earlier this year. The society couldn’t get permission to host the display in time to set it up.

The announcement upset many people, organiser Barb Penner included.

“Once you have your vision and you pull it off that first year, then people start seeing the vision and they can start adding and that’s what was going to happen this year.”

Looking to the future, Penner isn’t going to let this happen again.

“The collection that we have has been offered to be in many, many places in Vanderhoof and we’re going to just guarantee that it will be shown somewhere next year.”

If it can’t be at the historic site, she says both the Nechako Valley Exhibition Society and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church expressed interest this year.
