Clark responds to Kinder Morgan expansion approval

BC Premier Christy Clark has sounded off on Ottawa’s approval of Kinder Morgan’s expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline.

In order for the project to be successful, Clark believes five conditions must be followed.

“Projects must receive regulatory approval, we must have world leading marine spill response on the terrestrial land base, we must have world leading spill response on the oceans, they must have indigenous participation and British Columbia must receive it’s fair share of benefits.”

The premier’s stance on the issue hasn’t wavered one bit. “We set out the five conditions very sincerely, very seriously and have been consistent as well as principled and I have not changed my position on this subject from the very beginning, when I said we wanted to make sure BC’s coast was protected I was dead serious about that.”

Clark is also of the opinion two critical things separates the province from the rest of Canada.

“I believe that we have to find ways to balance resource development and job creation in this country with environmental protection but I don’t think their is anywhere in the world that does it as well as we do in BC.”
