Crime Severity Index in BC rises 4% in 2015

Drug offences seemed to be the crime of choice in BC last year.

Stats Canada Analyst, Warren Silver says the numbers are staggering. “British Columbia had the highest rate of total drug offences with a rate of 473 per 100,000 despite a decrease of 10% in 2014.”

In Prince George, 679 drug incidents were recorded in 2015 with 348 of those involving marijuana.

Prince George has also seen a steady decline in sexual assault incidents over the past five years.

In 2011, 79 were reported compared to only 43 in 2015.

However, there was a 5% spike provincially in sexual assault incidents last year at 2,362 while the number of incidents involving pot in BC dropped 17% from 2014 to the tune of 12,424.

95 homicides were recorded in BC in 2015 compared to just 3 in Prince George.

Police-reported crime in Canada increased 5% in 2015 which marked the first rise in 12 years.
