The District of Fort St James is completely without power.
BC Hydro spokesperson Bob Gammer says the lights have been out since 10:25am. “It’s a fault on our transmission line that feeds the community. Somewhere in between Vanderhoof and Fort St James… We understand it is a pole top fire and there are reports of wire down.”
Witnesses say a small grass fire was sparked as the result of the downed lines, however the local fire department has things under control.
Gammer says crews expect to have the power restored at 6pm.
He would like to remind the public to stay back from any downed power lines they come across, and report them immediately.
