BC Federation of Labour visits Mount Polley picket line

Mount Polley employees on the picket lines were visited by the President of the BC Federation of Labour on Monday.

Irene Lanzinger said there was a good turnout on the picket line that included the President of United Steelworkers local 1-2017 Brian O’Rourke from.

Lanzinger said the workers are in good spirits.

“So I basically I was there to give them that message of solidarity from the five hundred thousand members of the BC Federation of Labour to let them know that we as workers in the Province are all behind them, and that they are not alone, that their fight is our fight and that we support them”.

Lanzinger also told the employees “We have to stand up for workers rights, and I told them that when we do that as an individual Union we actually support all of the other workers in the Province and we support the next generation of workers because the things that we fight for and win in these disputes will be there for a long time”.

She spent two and half hours with the employees on the main picket line before stopping at the smaller picket line on Gavin Lake before heading back to the coast.
